The Hostel@Acorn by the Sea offers among the best of Maine's natural coastal scenery and is hidden away, tucked into a quiet place along Eggemoggin Reach on private gravel roads set about with spruce, pine and oak trees. Seagulls squawk…sometimes. Fog horns tooooot….rarely. Butterflies flutter….often. Fireflies twinkle in the warm nights of June and July…all the time. The stars shine… most nights. You never know what critter or feathered friend will pop in for a visit.
Our historic property consists of about 60 oceanfront acres. On site are ten sophisticatedly rustic private cottages plus our Hostel@Acorn by the Sea which is the ideal alternative for travelers who would love to explore the Blue Hill Peninsula, but without the frills.
We are centrally located on the Blue Hill Peninsula with it's amazing nature preserves, hiking trails, the natural living center, farm stands, organic gardens, abundant wildlife, boating opportunities, accessible islands with sparkling sandy beaches, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, musical events, and more.
Our Barn is great for special events. The piano is tuned and the wood box is full ready for a cozy fire in the stone hearth.
The towns of Stonington, Deer Isle, Brooklin, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Blue Hill are only a short drive away. Acadia National Park is an hour's drive away. Rent a kayak, canoe or bicycle here or there. Never a dull moment, unless it's your choice by design.
